Breathe in - Breathe out - Find your happy place.

“and I said to my body. softly. ‘I want to be your friend.’ it took a long breath. and replied ‘I have been waiting my whole life for this.”
~Nayyirah Waheed

Hey babe! I'm Leah, owner of Happy Body Yoga & Wellness. I'm here to inform, engage, relate, inspire, teach and learn. My goal with HBYW is to build authentic connections, support the Yoga for chronic illness community and inspire all my students, one Happy Body Yogi at a time.

Everyone's got a story, right? Here's mine...

Through years of struggling with Endometriosis, it was often proven to me that most fitness and exercise would only trigger my pain and symptoms. I was skeptical of giving Yoga a try the first time, but in 2012 while living in Key West, Florida, I decided to make an attempt. Prior to attending this class, I had little hope of connecting with the practice in the way I did. But during my time on my mat, I witnessed my body prove to me, pose after pose, what it was capable of. I cried in Savasana. I knew I had to make Yoga a part of my life, as much as my body would let me. Although it took a while to feel the confidence and motivation to do it regularly, I eventually did. Fast forward to May 2020; I graduated my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program, became a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, and started teaching regularly in studios and virtually. Since then I have increased my training and become a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher and certified in Yoga for Women's Health.

In addition to chronic illness advocacy, I feel strongly about interweaving many of my passions into my teaching, such as Yoga philosophy, music, body positivity, inclusivity, and accessibility. It is my goal to continuously hold the space for people of all different backgrounds and create a welcoming and inclusive environment where students, peers, and mentors can feel happy, safe, comfortable and at peace...

One of my most favorite quotes is by the influential writer, artist and thinker, Anais Nin: "I must be a mermaid. I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living..." Our lives are meant to be lived to the fullest, regardless of anything that might get in the way of reaching our highest potential. I'm here to help you find the tools to reach yours, regardless of physical limitations, hold the space for others to do the same, and maybe even surprise yourself in the process. Thank you for visiting my site and trusting me with your Yoga practice.

(Leah specializes in Vinyasa, Hatha, Gentle, Adaptive and Yoga Nidra, and is certified in Yoga for Women's Health. She currently teaches public and private classes at Banyan Tree Yoga in Nashua NH as well as virtually.)

“True yoga is not about the shape of your body, but the shape of your life. Yoga is not to be performed; it is to be lived. Yoga doesn’t care about what you have been; it cares about the person you are becoming. Yoga is designed for a vast and profound purpose, and for it to be truly called yoga, its essence must be embodied.”

Aadil Palkhivala, Fire of Love
